The story
The Diplomat Hotel stands on Dominican Hill in Baguio. Dominican friars built it in 1913 to 1915 as a vacation house and seminary. The seminary closed after two years. In World War II, Japanese forces used the building. Priests, nuns and refugees were killed there. American bombing damaged it in April 1945. The friars repaired it and used it again by 1947.
In 1973 a company turned the building into a 33-room hotel. The hotel closed after its manager died in 1987. People looted the empty building, and the 1990 Luzon earthquake damaged it further.
Ghost stories began after it closed. People say they have seen Japanese soldiers, nuns without heads and crying voices. Some point to strange shapes in photos. These are stories, and nobody has proven them. Television shows have featured the site in Halloween specials. Baguio City took over the land in 2005. It is now Dominican Heritage Hill and Nature Park, a national historical site since 2014. Rebuilding work began in 2022.
