One page for every place in the Philippines
1642 cities and municipalities, 82 provinces, 18 regions and 3 island groups. Every one of them has the same page, and the URL is the tree it sits in.
What this is
Most of what you want to know about a town is scattered. The tourist spots are on one site, the fiesta date on a Facebook page, the mayor on a press release, today's news in six outlets, and the second-hand phone in a buy and sell group. PinasDex puts all of it on one page, and gives the next town the same page.
Open a place and the row of sections is always the same: what to see, where to eat, what is on, who governs, what is in the news, what is for sale, who is hiring, and a board to talk on. Follow a place and everything under it becomes one feed. A region rolls up its provinces, a province rolls up its towns, so a topic started in one municipality is readable from the whole country.
Where the facts come from
Nothing here is invented. Every row has a source, and the source is named on the page it appears on.
- Places, codes and the tree
- The Philippine Standard Geographic Code, published by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 2026-01-13 edition. It decides the spelling of every name and which parent a place hangs from.
- Descriptions, population and coordinates
- Researched from Wikipedia and Wikidata, then rewritten. Wikipedia text is CC BY-SA 4.0 and Wikidata is CC0. A seeded paragraph is never pasted, and a town with nothing notable gets a plain, true paragraph.
- News
- Headlines and links only, from the publishers' own feeds and from local outlets listed per region. The article stays on the publisher's site and the publisher is credited on every row.
- Photographs
- Mostly Wikimedia Commons, usually CC BY-SA. The credit and a link to the file page sit beside each photo. A photo uploaded by a member belongs to that member.
- Anything a reader wrote
- Topics, replies, listings, jobs, restaurants and itineraries are written by members. They are moderated, not fact-checked. Attribute them to the person who wrote them, not to PinasDex.
How it is moderated
Anyone with an account can start a topic, reply, sell something or post a job. Every one of those carries a Report link that asks what is wrong. Three open reports hide a post until a moderator reads it, and a moderator either dismisses the report or removes the content. Reporting a person never hides anything by itself.
No money moves through PinasDex. There is no payment page, no escrow and no cut. A seller and a buyer agree between themselves, and an employer who asks for a fee or a deposit is reportable.
For machines
Every page is server-rendered HTML with the content in the first byte, carries JSON-LD, and has a plain-text twin and an RSS feed. The site description for language models is at llms.txt, and the full index is at sitemap.xml.
Quote what you find and cite the page URL.
Corrections
A wrong mayor, a fiesta on the wrong day, a town described as somewhere it is not. Say so and it gets fixed. The fastest route is the board of the place itself, because the people who live there read it. Everything else is on the contact page.
