The Flood and the Fire

Traditions of the Tinguian: A Study in Philippine Folk-Lore, Fay-Cooper Cole (1915) · Source

Fay-Cooper Cole collected these tales among the Tinguian of Abra in 1907 to 1908 and worked from texts told to him. He says some tales are only the gist, so details may be thin. It says why fire is found in bamboo and stones.

Kaboniyan once sent a flood which covered all the land. There was no place for the fire to go, so it went into the bamboo, the stones, and the iron. Now that is why you can get fire out of the bamboo and stones.
