San Roque Church
The church that holds Our Lady of Solitude of Porta Vaga, an icon that appeared after an apparition of the Virgin Mary. It is a diocesan shrine under the Diocese of Imus, and most people call it San Roque Parish Church. Local Catholics keep her feast on the second Sunday of November.
The parish stands at the southern end of the old walled city of Cavite and became an independent pueblo in 1614. Its name comes from a story of about 1700. A damaged ship put in for repairs nearby, and the captain had the crew's image of Saint Roch placed in the town chapel while the work went on. When the repairs were done, the crew could not move the statue, so they left it behind, and the town took Saint Roch as its patron.
