Heritage
Coffins fixed to the cliff face, an Igorot burial practice still used occasionally. Visited with a local guide. People have been buried this way around Sagada for more than 2,000 years.
The old carve their own coffin out of a hollowed log, or the family prepares it for them when they are too weak or ill, and the body is fitted inside, sometimes by breaking bones. Not everyone qualifies for the burial: among other things, a person has to have been married and to have had grandchildren.
