The main Episcopal church in Sagada, built in 1904 by American missionaries. The mission came after Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States in 1898 and the country opened to American Protestant missions.
Its first priest, John Staunton, kept the worship strongly Anglo-Catholic, and his assistant Albert Frost added devotions of his own, among them Candlemas, Corpus Christi and a May devotion to the Virgin Mary. That set the parish apart: in 1918 a visiting bishop ruled the hymns sung before the Reserved Sacrament and the statue of the Virgin illegal and banned them. Staunton and Frost stayed in post, and the practices went on.
