Clark Veterans Cemetery
A military cemetery inside the Clark Freeport Zone, with the graves of thousands of American veterans and Filipino Scouts of the United States Army. The men buried here died on military bases in the Philippines or in conflicts other than the Second World War. It sits just inside the main gate of the former base and covers 8.241 hectares.
Almost 8,600 people lie here, among them 650 Philippine Scouts and more than 2,100 unknowns. The earliest recorded burial is Private Santiago Belona, a Philippine Scout who died on 13 January 1900. Most of the graves came from the Fort McKinley post cemetery in Manila and were moved here between 1948 and 1950. Ash from the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption still hides the lower half of the standing headstones. Volunteers from a Veterans of Foreign Wars post have kept the grounds since 1994.
