One of the oldest parishes in Bulacan, older than Malolos Cathedral and Barasoain Church. The Franciscans Juan de Placencia and Diego Oropesa built the first church here in 1578, from nipa and bamboo. A concrete church replaced it in 1668.

Local people call it Simbahan sa Bayan, the church in the town. It is the largest parish in the province, with about 80,000 parishioners, and Saint Francis of Assisi is its patron.
