Church
A church that stands half buried in volcanic mud. On September 3, 1995 lahar from the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo filled the building to half of its 12 metres of height, and more than 50,000 people of the town left for resettlement areas.
The Augustinian friars built the first church here in 1576, the year the town itself was founded. An earthquake destroyed it in 1880 and Father Eugenio Alvarez rebuilt it in 1886. A museum next to the facade covers the history of the church and keeps paintings of the eruption.
