The largest wetland in the Philippines, and the biggest marsh in Southeast Asia, spread across the middle of the Agusan River basin. It holds nearly 15 percent of the country's fresh water in swamp forests.
Manobo families live deep inside on floating houses of bamboo and nipa lashed to hardwood logs, which rise and fall with the water. More than 200 bird species spend part of the year here, and in the dry months birds arrive from as far as Japan, China and Russia. The saltwater crocodile Lolong, 6.17 metres and the largest ever held in captivity, came from this marsh. A section called Wonderland, where the trees grow into natural bonsai shapes, is reached from Barangay Caimpogan or Barangay New Visayas in San Francisco.
