Lake Sebu
A lake of 361.124 hectares at about 1,000 metres, ringed by hills and rainforest in the Alah Valley near Surallah. Tilapia grow in floating cages across the water, and egrets, herons, kingfishers and Philippine cockatoos live around the shores. The Tboli, Tiruray, Ubo and Manobo people live here, and the Tboli are known for weaving and brassware.
UNESCO recognises the wider valley landscape of 42,450 hectares as a cultural landscape. The government counts the lake among the country's most important watersheds, and its water irrigates farmland in South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat. A concrete road cut the trip in from four hours to under 30 minutes. The villages on the shores were once part of Surallah and now form a municipality of their own.
