An ancestral house in Dapitan that now works as a heritage museum, known as the Balay Hamoy Museum. The display covers the exile of Jose Rizal in the town, from 1892 to 1896.
Mariano Hamoy built the house in 1893. He was a schoolmate of Rizal at the Ateneo Municipal de Manila and his partner in the abaca trade, and Rizal came often for a game of chess and a talk. Rizal was also the family doctor, and attended the birth of Hamoy's child in 1894. The rooms hold jars, clothes, sewing machines and furniture, with the chess set the two men used and the steamer trunk Rizal gave to Hamoy. The house was restored from 2020 to 2022 and received a national historical marker in 2024.
