A baroque Catholic church and the seat of the Diocese of Maasin. It holds a 200-year-old statue of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Maasin, called the Patrona, and its parish is one of the oldest in the country.

Jesuit priests built the first church here in 1700. The Augustinians and then the Franciscans took the parish after them, and each order in turn rebuilt the church after it was damaged. What stands today went up in 1968. The diocese covers Southern Leyte and reaches into Leyte, to Matalom, Bato, Hilongos, Hindang, Inopacan and the city of Baybay.
