The biggest Spanish colonial church in the Cagayan Valley, and the seat of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao. Dominican friars built it between 1761 and 1767 in Baroque style, on Rizal Street in the city centre, under Father Antonio Lobato.
Its full name is Saint Peter Metropolitan Cathedral. A deeply recessed oculus holds the centre of the front, under a broken and crested pediment that other churches in the valley copied, among them Dupax del Sur and Bambang. A five-storey bell tower stands to the left, with blind windows at its base and a cross above its roofed canopy. A few metres away the Catholic cemetery keeps its brick arched entrance and fence. The Second World War damaged the church and Bishop Constance Jurgens rebuilt it. A historical marker went up in 1982.
