Tumauini Church
A Baroque church of red brick, inside and out, and a National Cultural Treasure. It became a parish of its own, separate from Cabagan, in 1751, under the patronage of Saint Matthias.
The Dominican Domingo Forto started the present building in 1783 and it was finished in 1805. Brick was used because the area has no good stone, and the front carries numbers and dates that told the masons the order of each piece. The round pediment has no match among the Spanish-era churches, and the belfry beside it is the only cylindrical tower the period left in the country, tiered like a wedding cake. The bell still has its bullet holes and was never recast. The clergy house next to the church stands in ruins. Since 2006 it has been on the list proposed to UNESCO as an extension of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines, together with Boljoon, Guiuan, Loboc and Lazi.
