Malagonlong Bridge
A stone arch bridge of five spans, 136 metres long, built between 1840 and 1850 from about 100,000 adobe blocks. It was the longest bridge made in the Spanish colonial period. It crosses the Dumacaa River on the old road from Tayabas to Mauban.
Fray Antonio Mattheos, a Franciscan priest, directed the work, and the people of Tayabas built the bridge over ten years in place of paying taxes. The carriageway is about 6 metres wide and has six small balconies where walkers can stop. A concrete bridge opened beside it in 2004 and took the traffic, so the old one now carries visitors only. The government declared the bridge a National Cultural Treasure on August 12, 2011, under the Historic Bridges of Tayabas.
