Bell Church
A Chinese temple run by a Chinese Filipino religious group of the same name, which draws on several traditions at once. Its five patron saints stand for Taoism, Confucianism, Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. Chinese immigrants from Taishan led by Ng Pee founded the group in 1960, and in that decade it moved to this hillside of 10,000 square metres in Barangay Balili, close to the Baguio boundary.
An arch painted with dragons and Chinese writing opens the grounds. Inside stand pagodas with images of the saints and the Buddha, a bust of Ng Pee and two octagonal ponds of lotus. Devotees put questions to the saints through the temple medium, and they keep the Hungry Ghost Festival here. A gymnasium on the site teaches dragon and lion dancing and martial arts. Philippine films used the temple as a location from the 1970s to the 1990s.
