Bataan World War II Museum
A war museum inside the compound of Balanga Elementary School, on the site where General Edward P. King negotiated the surrender of 76,000 USAFFE soldiers to the Japanese Imperial Army. The Surrender Site Marker stands in the same compound.
The surrender came on 9 April 1942, after American and Filipino troops had held the Bataan peninsula for months without reinforcement or supplies. It was the largest surrender of American forces on foreign soil. The prisoners were taken on the Bataan Death March, in which more than 16,000 of them died, and the survivors were then held at Camp O'Donnell.
