Shrine
The burial place of Gregorio Aglipay, in a complex that also holds the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Philippine Independent Church. Aglipay (1860 to 1940) was a Catholic priest who served as military chaplain during the Philippine Revolution of 1898 and sat in the Malolos Congress as its one member from the religious sector. He was excommunicated in 1899 for rebelling against Spanish rule. In 1902 he and Isabelo de los Reyes founded the Philippine Independent Church, and he became its first supreme bishop. A marker on the site dates from 1949.
