Church
Candon Church
The city's parish church, built in the Earthquake Baroque style, with a four-storey octagonal bell tower. The tower alternates open and blind openings, carries a balustrade and is topped by a campanile.
An Augustinian mission put the first church in the settlement in 1591. The present Candon Church replaced it in 1695, took damage in the earthquake of 1707 and was restored in 1713. It is dedicated to John of Sahagún, the city's patron, whose feast day is June 12.
