Syquia Mansion
One of the oldest stone houses, or bahay na bato, in Vigan, now open as a museum. Justo Angco built it in 1830 and gave it as a dowry when his daughter married Gregorio Syquia in 1875. The ground floor is stone, brick and mortar, and the upper floor is wood. Inside are furniture, paintings and other pieces, along with exhibits on Elpidio Quirino, president of the Philippines.
The house passed to Quirino's wife, Alicia Syquia. The couple stayed here in 1921, when he was still a congressman, and he used it as his retreat house once he was president. The 2022 Luzon earthquake destroyed some of the walls and windows. During a fire scare in Vigan the relics kept in the mansion were moved to Manila for safekeeping.
