Pinaglabanan Shrine
A national shrine and park on Pinaglabanan Street, for the Katipuneros who laid siege to the Almacen de Polvorin, a Spanish colonial armoury. That fight was the first battle of the Philippine Revolution against Spain.
The park went up in 1976. At its centre is the Spirit of Pinaglabanan, a brass sculpture by Eduardo Castrillo of three figures on a semicircular base. Two museums stand in the grounds, the Museo ng Katipunan and the Museo El Deposito, and the Spanish-era El Deposito reservoir below street level has been restored and is open to visitors. Andrés Bonifacio and his men took the powder store in 1896 but lost the battle, and never reached El Deposito, which then carried water to Intramuros.
