Sultan Dumalondong was assembled in 1995 out of pieces of three older towns: barangays and sitios taken from Butig, Lumbatan and Lumbayanague. It is now one of the smallest municipalities in Lanao del Sur, 12,984 people in seven barangays, which is about the size of a single barangay elsewhere.
