Lake
Lake Dapao
A protected lake southwest of Lake Lanao, and one of the deepest in the country: it reaches 120 metres. The surface covers about 1,011 hectares, and the water comes from local run-off and several small rivers.
The lake and the land around it became a protected national park in 1965 under Republic Act 4190, which covers about 1,500 square kilometres. The water is rich in fish: dalag, Mozambique tilapia, common carp, goby and catfish. The endangered Barbodes tumba once lived here in numbers, but fieldwork in 1982 found none, and it is believed to be locally extinct.
