Kabuntalan goes by Mother Kabuntalan now that Northern Kabuntalan has been cut away from it, and it answered to Tumbao before either name. About 41,100 people live in its 17 barangays. Like its neighbours, the town spent 2006 to 2008 inside Shariff Kabunsuan, the province the Supreme Court undid.
