Buluan is the capital of Maguindanao del Sur, a question settled by Republic Act 11550 after decades in which the old Maguindanao province never managed to fix a permanent capitol anywhere. The provincial board had already named it capital in 2014. About 60,900 people live here, in only seven barangays.
