Mosque
Sheikh Karimul Makhdum Mosque
The oldest mosque in the Philippines, by local lore: people date the first mosque on this ground to 1380, built in the indigenous sacred Moro pagoda style. Makhdum Karim, an Arab trader and missionary, established it.
The building standing now dates from the 1960s, but four old pillars from the 17th century are kept inside it. It sits at Barangay Tubig Indangan in Simunul, and the same lore makes it the oldest mosque in Southeast Asia as well.
