About Tawi-Tawi

The oldest mosque in the country is here, on Simunul, where Sheik Karim al Makhdum is said to have built it in 1380 and four of the original pillars still stand. Tawi-Tawi is the southernmost province of the Philippines, nearer to Sabah and North Kalimantan than to most of its own country. Bongao is the capital, and the hill above the town is climbed by Muslims and Christians alike.
