Mountain
Mount Bongao
The southernmost peak in the Philippines: six limestone pillars that stand as its six summits. Local people call it Bud Bongao and hold it sacred. Two Islamic preachers who followed Karim ul-Makhdum are believed to lie under the Tampat Rocks, and the site was sacred before Islam arrived.
The peak sits inside the Bongao Peak Eco-Tourism Park, opened in 2017: 250 hectares of forest, among the last moist forest left in the Sulu Archipelago. The mountain carries spiritual and traditional weight for the Sama Dilaut people.
