Balut Island
A volcanic island off the southern tip of the province, in the municipality of Sarangani. Mount Balut stands at its centre, a fumarolic volcano with no eruption in the record, though the island is still counted as potentially active. The island's other name is Malulong.
The island lies 13 kilometres from mainland Mindanao across the Sarangani Strait, and boats come in at the Port of Mabila, the town centre. The high point reaches 862 metres, and hot springs run along the west and southwest foot of the volcano, some of them at 95 to 96 degrees Celsius. This is one of the southernmost parts of the country, so you can see Polaris low in the northern sky and the Magellanic Clouds in the south.
