Marunggas was the name until the town became Hadji Panglima Tahil, the least populated municipality in Sulu at about 8,441 people. In 2000 it recorded the highest poverty incidence of any town in the Philippines, 89.7 percent. That estimate is a quarter of a century old now, and it is still the number the town is known by.
