Guipos was stitched together in 1991 from barangays of four different towns, San Miguel, Dumalinao, Dinas and San Pablo, under a law Corazon Aquino signed that October. It is one of the smaller municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur, about 22,173 people in 17 barangays.
