A lake in the hills above the city, shaped like a violin and 3 kilometres long, at 640 metres above sea level. Floating cottages sit on the water and boats are for hire.
The water covers 148 hectares inside Lake Danao Natural Park, which is 2,193 hectares and takes in the Amandiwin Mountains. The altitude keeps the air cooler than most of the country. The lake is volcanic and sits in a depression along the Philippine Fault, which crosses it from north to south. It lies 18 kilometres northeast of Ormoc, a half-hour drive on the San Pablo-Tongonan and Milagro-Lake Danao roads. It was called Lake Imelda until 3 February 1998, when it was renamed and declared Lake Danao National Park. The National Integrated Protected Area System Act of 1992 protects it.
