About San Juan

San Juan in Southern Leyte was Cabalian before it was San Juan, and the Murillo Velarde map of 1734 spells it Caualian. The old name survives in Kabalian, a Visayan language distinct from Waray and Cebuano that is still spoken in parts of the town. Population is 15,036.
