A white sand island resort about three kilometres off the coast of Barangay Cadiz Viejo. It is popular with local visitors.
The island covers 13 hectares, is shaped like a banana, and lies 48 kilometres north of Bacolod. The name comes from the Cebuano lakaw, to walk, because at low tide you wade a long way to reach it. Lakawon is more like a sandbar: the white sand faces Negros, the side towards the open sea is rugged, and a small fishing village sits on one end. From the national highway at Cadiz Viejo a dirt road runs down to the shore, where you can park and see the island. The motorized banca takes about 20 minutes. Come in the morning at high tide, when the water is calmer and there is less wading.
