About Escalante City
Every 30 May Escalante holds its Manlambus Festival, named for an old way of catching fish. The city sits on the north-eastern coast of Negros Occidental, cane on one side and the sea on the other, with about 97,000 people. It is also where soldiers fired on a protest in September 1985 and killed about twenty people, which the town still marks.
