Roxas Cathedral
A cathedral on the plaza in the historic centre, the seat of the Archdiocese of Capiz and the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It faces the Panay River and the Capiz Bridge. Augustinian missionaries founded the parish in 1707, one of the oldest on Panay Island, and the present building went up in 1827.
The parish church became a cathedral when the Diocese of Capiz was created on 27 January 1951. The diocese kept the old provincial name because the city changed its own name to Roxas three months later, on 11 April 1951. The image of the Immaculate Conception was crowned in December 2023.
