Bulusan Volcano Natural Park
Protected rainforest around Mount Bulusan, 3,673 hectares of it, in the south central part of the province. Bulusan Lake and Lake Aguingay sit inside the park, along with two more peaks, Sharp Peak and Hormahan. Five towns share its boundary: Bulusan, Barcelona, Irosin, Juban and Casiguran.
Lake Aguingay is a wide plain at the centre of the mountains. It floods from time to time and dries up in summer. Deep ravines and caves cut the volcano itself. Giant ferns grow under tall red lauan and molave, with ground orchids below and two endemic plants, the fern Thelypteris bulusanica and Heptapleurum caudatifolium. Birds here include the Philippine duck, the Philippine hawk-eagle, the flame-breasted fruit-dove and the Philippine eagle-owl. The area became a national park in 1935 and was reclassified as a natural park in 2000.
