Basco Lighthouse
A six-storey lighthouse on Naidi Hill in Barangay San Antonio, with a deck over Basco and the open sea. You reach it on foot: the hike up from the Port of Basco is 1.2 kilometres.
The deck is on the fifth floor and the tower is 20 metres high. From it you see Batan Island from end to end, including Mount Iraya, with Sabtang Island to the south and Itbayat to the north. Next to the tower stands a house in the Ivatan manner, built of stone and rubble masonry. The lighthouse was finished in 2003 on the site of the American period telegraph station that connected Batanes with the central government until Japanese bombing destroyed it at the start of the Second World War. A few of the old buildings survive and one is now a café.
