Magat Dam

no rating yet ♥ 0

Southeast Asia's biggest dam, with a tourism complex at the site. The dam is part of why farming here is productive: most of the province's land is irrigated, and Isabela grows more corn than any other province and ranks second in rice.

It is a rock-fill wall across the Magat River, the largest tributary of the Cagayan. Work ran from 1975 to 1982, and the reservoir now holds 1.08 billion cubic metres, enough to water about 85,000 hectares of farmland and to drive a 360 megawatt power station. The spillway is 500 metres long and has seven radial gates. An all-weather road reaches the dam from the San Mateo to Santiago road at Oscariz in Ramon, about 350 kilometres north of Metro Manila.
