The city's main Catholic church, one of the oldest churches in Batangas, and an independent parish since 1614. It carries a second title, the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño de Batangan, and it belongs to the Archdiocese of Lipa.

Pedro Cuesta began the present building in 1851 on the site of the older one. Walls 1.5 metres thick and three heavy buttresses on each side answer the local threats of eruption, earthquake and typhoon wind. An octagonal belfry stands beside the church, with the baptistery under it. Two images draw devotion: the ivory Inmaculada Concepcion de Batangan, enshrined in 1868 and given a pontifical coronation by Pope Francis in 2022, and a black Santo Niño in metal vestments with a butterfly-styled cape, copied from the image in Cebu.
