Casa de Segunda
A heritage house from the 1860s on Rizal Street, kept as a museum. Don Norberto Calao Katigbak, a gobernadorcillo whose family money came from coffee, built it between 1862 and 1863 as a gift to his daughter Segunda Solis Katigbak, the first love of José Rizal. She married Manuel Mitra de San Miguel-Luz, who also owned the house.
A fountain, a fishpond and an orchard fill the courtyard. The receiving hall keeps its black-and-white machuca tiles, damaged in part by the bombing of Lipa in the Second World War, and holds a copy of Segunda's portrait with family photographs. Upstairs the floors are narra planks, the sliding windows are wood and capiz, and the master bedroom has a carved narra bed. Paz Luz-Dimayuga repaired the house in 1956, and the National Historic Institute later declared it a national heritage house.
