Lipa Cathedral

The seat of the Archdiocese of Lipa, built in a Neo-Renaissance style on a Latin cross plan, with arches around the main hall and a large dome. An octagonal bell tower stands beside the front. It had five floors at first and seven after the post-war rebuilding. The high altar carries the image of Saint Sebastian, the titular of the church, and four smaller altars stand at the sides.

Pope Pius X erected the diocese in 1910, detached from the Archdiocese of Manila, and this church was chosen as its seat in the same year. The new diocese then covered Batangas, Quezon, Aurora, Laguna, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro and part of the Camarines area. Five Batangas towns competed for the seat, and Lipa won it for its cold climate. War damage in 1944 was repaired by 1957, when two side aisles were added.
