Malabrigo Point Lighthouse
A working lighthouse on the coast at Lobo, completed and lit in 1896. It is one of the oldest working lighthouses in the Philippines and the best preserved in the country. The light still guides ships through the Verde Island Passage towards Batangas Bay or the Sibuyan Sea. It stands about 115 kilometres southeast of Manila.
Guillermo Brockman designed it in 1891: a cylindrical brick tower in Victorian style, with a metal staircase, a double balcony, the keeper's quarters and a machine room. The name comes from the Spanish mal abrigo, or bad shelter, for a rocky coast with strong currents in the monsoon season. American gunfire damaged the top of the tower in the Second World War. The town of Lobo adopted the lighthouse in 2014 and repainted it. Filming on the site needs a permit from the Mayor's Office.
