Mount Pico de Loro
The highest mountain in Cavite at 688 metres, a dormant volcano also called Mount Palay-Palay. It stands on the border with Batangas. The summit is the high point of the Mounts Palay-Palay-Mataas-na-Gulod Protected Landscape, and one of the old volcanic features of the Bataan Arc.
Spanish sailors named it Pico de Loro, parrot's beak, for the shape of the pointed summit seen from the sea, and they steered by it to turn east into Manila Bay. Near the top stands a lone vertical rock, the Monolith, with a view all round over the protected landscape and Limbones Cove. The trails closed in October 2016 for repair and stayed shut through the pandemic and through typhoon damage in 2021. Hiking reopened in stages from December 2022, with places booked online.
