Antipolo Cathedral
The seat of the Bishop of Antipolo and the shrine of a Black Madonna that draws millions of pilgrims each year. The image carries the title Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, and the church is also called the Immaculate Conception Parish.
Governor-General Juan Niño de Tabora brought the image from Acapulco in New Spain, now Mexico, on March 25, 1626, and gave it to the Jesuits for the town church. Devotion grew after the Recollects took over the parish in 1864, when people from Manila and nearby towns walked to Antipolo along mountain trails. Most pilgrims come in the season from May to July.
