About Region I (Ilocos Region)
The Ilocos Region gave the country empanada, bagnet and the surf break at San Juan, which is a fair return for a thin strip of northwest coast. Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan sit along it, with San Fernando in La Union as the regional centre. Ilocanos have a national reputation for thrift and a long line of political dynasties, and neither is going anywhere.
