Theatre
Tanghalang Pambansa
The national theatre and the flagship house of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, designed by Leandro Locsin. Inside are three performing arts venues, a theatre for film, galleries, a museum and the centre's library and archives.
The brutalist block is a prime example of the floating volume, the signature of Locsin, a shape drawn from Philippine houses such as the nipa hut. Work started in 1966 and the theatre opened in 1969. Its first big renovation came in 2005, for the opening and closing ceremonies of a General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
