Mount Hibok-Hibok
One of the country's active volcanoes, a stratovolcano 1,332 metres high on the Pacific ring of fire, also known as Catarman Volcano. It has six hot springs and three craters. The eruption of 4 December 1951 destroyed nearly 19 square kilometres of land around Mambajao and killed more than 3,000 people. The forest reserves of the island's interior around it form the Mount Hibok-Hibok Protected Landscape, which every Southeast Asian nation has declared an ASEAN Heritage Park.
Climbers need a permit from the DENR office in Mambajao. The walk up takes three to five hours and usually starts at Ardent Hot Springs. From the top you see White Island, Bohol to the north, eastern Mindanao to the east and Siquijor to the west, and the mossy crater of a past eruption.
