Protected coast and wetland on Danao Bay, 294.10 hectares of mangrove, sea grass and coral reef. The area covers the barangays of Misom, Sinian, Tugas and Landing, and takes in part of the Sinian River, which drains into the bay. The government put it under protection in 2000.
Danao Bay is a shallow arm of the Bohol Sea near the border with Zamboanga del Norte. A fringe of coral reef takes the strong waves off the mangrove forest behind it, which holds at least 21 mangrove species, most of them bakawan. Waterbirds shelter and nest here: the brahminy kite, the common egret, the olive-backed sunbird and the blue-capped woodpecker. The older Misom Sea Sanctuary, set up in 1991 by the local government with the Pipuli Foundation, lies inside the area.
